Abstract

Objective To extract and isolate Polysaccharides from Stemona tuberosa Lour.,and study its molecular weight and monosaccharide compositions. MethodsA water-soluble polysaccharide was isolated from Stemona tuberosa Lour.sequentially through water extraction, ethanol precipitation, ion exchange chromatography and gel permeation chromatography. The molecular mass of STP-1 was determined by gel filtration chromatography and its monosaccharide compositions were determined by pre-column derivatization Gas Chromatography. Resultshe molecular weight of STP was about 4.2×104 Da,which was composed of Rha,Ara,Xyl,Glu and Gal with molar ratio of 2.35∶1.78∶1∶15.09∶13.56. ConclusionSTP-1 was aneutral heteropolysaccharide which was composed of five monosaccharides,of which Glu and Gal were the top two.
