Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of two treatment protocols of diode laser transscleral cyclophotocoagulation(TDLC) for neovascular glaucoma. Methods: Eighty-eight cases of neovascular glaucoma were treated with TDLC performed according to two different protocols. Before and after 24 h treatment, the intraocular pressure(IOP), Snellen visual acuity, the number of antiglaucoma medications and slit-lamp biomicroscopic findings were recorded. The follow-up period was 1 year. Results: After operation, both short-term and long-term IOP were significantly lower than those before operation in two groups(18.78 mm Hg and 28.10 mm Hg, P 0.01). The treatment of protocol 2 was more effective than that of protocol 1(P = 0.019). There were no significant differences in complications and visual acuity changes. Conclusion: TDLC is an effective method for neovascular glaucoma. The treatment of protocol 2 was more effective and safe compared to those of protocol 1.
