Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role and clinical signifi cance of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and E-cadherin(E-CD) in development of renal cell carcinoma. Methods: SV immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of MMP-9 and E-CD in 40 cases renal cell carcinoma and 20 cases normal kidney. Results:In renal cell carcinoma, the expression of MMP-9 was obviously higher, while E-CD was obviously lower than normal kidney(P0.05). In renal cell carcinoma, the expression of MMP-9 and E-CD were related to histological differentiation and clinical stage(P 0.05). The expression of MMP-9 and E-CD were negatively correlated in renal cell carcinoma(r=-0.4024, P0.01). Conclusions:Abnormal expression of MMP-9 and E-CD may participate in carcinogenesis and metastasis of renal cell carcinoma. Joint detection of MMP-9 and E-CD has a certain reference value for evaluating the malignant degree, judging metastatic potentiality and prognosis of renal cell carcinoma.
