Abstract
Graft polymerization of acrylamide(AM) and styrene(St) onto alkaliline maize starch using CS 2/H 2O 2 as initiator were inverstigated under different conditions including concentration of NaOH, initiator and monomer, the molecular ratio of CS 2 to H 2O 2, polymerization temperature and time. The experimental results indicate that both the optium conversion efficiency of monomer and graft efficiency are above 96% after grafting 0.5~1 h under room temperature(25~35 ℃). The grafting of AM onto starch is easy than St under the same graft conditions. This redox initiator is a radical initiating system, is advantageous for the grafting of water soluable monomer, and has the character of high efficiency and moderate reactionary conditions.
