Abstract
Using Fe 2+ H 2O 2 initiation system, a series of cationic starch DMDAAC graft copolymer which containing quaternary ammonium groups, were prepared by the graft polymerization of DMDAAC onto soluble starch in water medium under different condition. Effects of various factors such as monomer concentration, the initiator added amount and reaction temperature on the percentage of grafting, the grafting efficiency, cationic degree and the monomer conversion etc. were studied. The mechanism of grafting polymerization on starch in Fe 2+ H 2O 2 initiation system was also discussed. The graft copolymers were characterized and were analyzed by IR and 1H NMR.
