Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of the psychological intervention on dental anxiety and fear of preschool children. Methods: A total of 368 cases of preschool children of 4~6 years old were divided into the intervention group of 186 cases and the control group of 182 cases.Comprehensive psychological intervention was carried out for preschool children in the intervention group before, during and after the treatment but not for children in the control group.Intervention was given to the children in the intervention group by health education, providing psychological support and music treatment. Then Corah's dental anxiety scale(CDAS),Induction Compliance Checklist(ICC) and Heart rate(HR) of all cases were measured. Results: There were anxiety and fear during the dental treatment period in the preschool children. There was no significant difference in CDAS,ICC and HR between the intervention group and the control group before intervention. After intervention,it showed that the CDAS and ICC scores in intervention group(11.35±4.31;2.8±1.3,2.9±2.1) were apparently lower than those in the control group(14.27±5.23;4.2±2.5,5.1±2.8).Heart rate in control group(104.5±15.8,97.5±14.7) was significant faster than that in the intervention group(90.1±17.9,88.9±11.4).After treatment HR was slow in the intervention group(88.9±11.4).Conclusion: Psychological intervention is a good way of decreasing anxiety and fear, slowing down HR and raising the compliance for children in dental treatment.
