MicroPure imaging in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast cancer

Abstract

Objective To observe the value of MicroPure imaging on detection of microcalcifications and in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast cancer.Methods Totally 110patients with 125breast neoplasms having microcalcifications confirmed by molybdenum target X-ray mammography underwent high-frequency ultrasound and MicroPure imaging.The detection rate of microcalcification was calculated,and the BI-RADS classification was performed.Taking pathological result as gold standards,the diagnostic accuracy for breast cancer was compared between MicroPure imaging and high-frequency ultrasound.ROC curve was drawn to analyze the diagnostic efficiency of these two methods.Results The detection rate of microcalcification of MicroPure imaging was 100%(125/125),significantly higher than that in high-frequency ultrasound(97/125,77.60%;χ2=29.32,P0.05).For hypoechoic tumors,the detection rate for microcalcification was not significantly different between MicroPure imaging(69/69,100%)and high-frequency ultrasound(67/69,97.10%;χ2=0.507,P0.05),while for non-hypoechoic tumors,the detection rate for microcalcification of MicroPure imaging(56/56,100%)was higher than that in high-frequency ultrasound(30/56,53.57%;χ2=31.31,P0.05).The specificity,sensitivity and accuracy of MicroPure imaging for diagnosing breast cancer was 86.21%(50/58),95.52%(64/67)and 91.20%(114/125),while of high-frequency ultrasound was 86.21%(50/58),74.63%(50/67)and 80.00%(100/125),respectively,with statistical difference in sensitivity and accuracy(both P0.05).The area under ROC curve of MicroPure imaging(0.944)was bigger than high-frequency ultrasonography(0.859)for diagnosing breast cancer.Conclusion The detection rate for microcalcifications can be increased using MicroPure imaging,therefore improving the diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy of breast cancer.
