Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate the significance of PTEN and FHIT in normal oral membrane and oral squamouce cell carcinoma (OSCC). The relationship between PTEN, FHIT and pathological characteristics of OSCC was analyzed. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining by SP method was used to detect the expression of PTEN and FHIT in 62 cases of OSCC, and 12 cases of normal oral membrane. Results: PTEN and FHIT were both expressed in all of the normal oral membrane (12/12). In 62 cases of OSCC, PTEN was expressed in 47 cases (47/62), and FHIT was expressed in 51 cases (51/62). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the tumor suppress gene PTEN and FHIT may both play a role in the pathogenesis of OSCC.
