Abstract
Objective:To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in breast carcinoma and the clinical significance. Methods:74 women with primary breast carcinoma were studied for the expression of VEGF using immunohistochemical assay. The association of VEGF expression with clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis was further analyzed.Results:64.9% breast cancer cases were found with positive expression for VEGF.The expression of VEGF were related to tumor size(P0.05),clinical stage(P0.05) and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Both overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) were statistically significant between VEGF expression negative and VEGF expression positive respectively. Conclusion:VEGF expression may be a poor prognosis for human breast cancer.VEGF is an important prognostic factor in breast cancer.
