Abstract

Ecological Footprint is a new method includes biophysical assessments and get rid of some defects of the other models to quantify and analysis sustainable development, on account of its scientific theory, innovative thoughts and wide adaptability, it becoming more and more popular in recent years. With the Ecological Footprint method, the Ecological Footprint of Lanzhou City in 2002 is calculated and analyzed. According to the results, the demand of ecological footprint of Lanzhou in 2002 was beyond the available ecological capacity, it shows that Lanzhou City is in a unsustainable status; the demand of ecological footprint takes petrochemical industry fuel and cultivated land as the core; the mainly productive land such as fossil fuel land ,cultivated land ,meadow land ,forest land and water areas present the ecological deficit ; the ecological pressure while developing in the area is relatively greatly.
