Abstract

With the development of low-carbon economy,it is of great significance to study the ecological footprint and ecological capacity of regional land and explore the regional sustainable development path for the promotion of the ecological civilization development and the construction of the resource-saving and environment-friendly society.Based on the improved ecological footprint model, this paper calculates and analyzes the ecological footprint and ecological capacity of Wuhan City from 2001to2010,with the results that(1)the productive ecological footprint was large in this city during 2001 and 2010,its carbon footprint increasing significantly;(2)there was a tendency that the available ecological capacity declined as a whole;and(3)Wuhan has been in serious productive ecological deficit and its development mode is in an unsustainable state. Therefore it is necessary for this city to adjust its development strategy through integrating low-carbon economy with the sustainable utilization of land in order to promote the sustainable development of regional economy, society and environment.
