Abstract
Multi Protocol Label Switching(MPLS)is the most representative integration model for ATM switching and Internet routing/packet forwarding. MPLS combines network layer packet forwarding with link layer frame switching for L3 packet relaying. This technology not only greatly improves the packet forwarding capability in intermediate systems, but also enhances the network layer routing system's scalability. This paper briefly analyzes the network model of MPLS, label assigning and routing technique. Some techniques are presented which use MPLS based on the ATM backbone network.
