Abstract

Lab and pilot studies were conducted to select the best activated carbon to add and its optimal dosage for enhanced removal of organic pollutants in the raw water from upper-reach of Huangpu River.Carbons made from coal, bamboo and coconut shell were used for the selection. The results showed that by adding PAC the quality of treated raw water could be improved, and the removal rate of organic pollutants increased with the dosage of PAC.By comparison of the cost performance and carbon source feasibility,PAC from bamboo was rational economically. When PAC dosage was ranged in 10~15mg/L,the effluent CODMn of treated raw water could be reduced to 3mg/L or less.
