Abstract
The removal efficiencies of CODMn, TOC and UV254 in the raw water from Huangpu River by coal-based, almond shell-based and coconut shell-based powdered activated carbons (PACs) were studied in lab-scale test and pilot test. The removal efficiencies of CODMn, TOC and UV254 by PACs are not so obvious, because the organic matters in the raw water from Huangpu River are mainly organic matters with small molecular weight. In the pilot test, when the dosages of PACs are 5 to 30 mg/L, CODMn concentrations in the sedimentation effluent are all about 3.0 mg/L. TOC concentrations in the sedimentation effluent are all less than 5.0 mg/L, and the removal rates of TOC are 21.34% to 44.78%. The removal efficiencies of UV254 by PACs are obviously different, and the order from good to bad is almond shell-based, coconut shell-based and coal-based PACs. The effective role of PACs is played from the addition beginning to the end of sedimentation, and they have no impact on the filtered water.
