Abstract
Objective: To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in esophageal squamous carcinoma. Methods: Expression of VEGF-C in 72 patients with esophageal squamous carcinoma was examined immunohistochemically. Results: Positive VEGF-C expression was detected in 38. 9% (28/72) patients with esophageal squamous carcinoma. The expression of VEGF-C was correlated to the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis (P0. 01), but not to patient age, tumor size or differentiation degree (P0. 05). Conclusion: VEGF-C may play an important role in lymphatic metastasis of esophageal squamous carcinoma.
