Abstract
To investigate the relationship between microvessel density(MVD)and clinicopathological characteristics, and its clinical significance in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.MVD in tumor tissues was measured by immunohistochemistry in62cases with esophageal carcinoma.Correlations between MVD and clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed. The mean of MVD was56.32±15.41in tumor tissuses.MVD in tumor size2cm~5cm(55.81±13.96)and≥5cm(66.26±17.18)were significantly higher than that in tumor size≤2cm(43.48±16.31),P0.05and P0.01;MVD in lymph node positive(3)group(64.50±16.11)was significantly higher than that in lymph node negative group(47.51±14.22).MVD in relapsed or metastatic group(60.44±13.22)was significantly higher than that in disease free group(45.81±16.16)(P0.01);Whereas no correlation was found between MVD and tumor location, histologic grade(P0.05).[Conclusion]MVD was related with tumor size, number of positive lymph node, relapsed or metastatic status. It could be an independent prognostic factor in esophageal carcinoma.
