Abstract
Objective:To investigate the relationship between microvessel density(MVD),clinicopathological characteristics and the clinical implication in tissue of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. Methods:MVD of 62 cases of esophageal carcinoma were studied by immunohistochemintry on section of formalin-fixed and Paraffin-embedded tumor tissue.Correlations between MVD,clinicopathological factors were statistically analyzed. Results:The mean of MVD was 56.32±15.41 in all Patients.MVD of 2~5 cm and ≥5 cm group were respectively 55.81±13.96 and 66.26±17.18,and they were significantly higher in tumor size than ≤2 cm group (MVD 43.48±16.31), P 0.05 and P 0.01 ; MVD was significantly higher in lymph node positive ( 3 , MVD 64.50±16.11 ) or relapsed or metastatic group ( MVD 60.44±13.22)than in lymph node negative(MVD 47.51±14.22) and disease free survival group(MVD 45.81±16.16)( P 0.01);Whereas no correlations with tumor position, histologic grade. Conclusion:MVD was related with tumor size, lymph node positive number, relapsed or metastatic status. It could be an independent prognostic factor in Esophageal Carcinoma.
