Abstract
Objective To determine whether tumor angiogenesis correlates with progression of esophageal carcinoma.Method Microvessel density (MVD) of 65 specimens resected from patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were examined using immunohistochemical staining with CD 34 monoclonal antibody.Correlation among MVD and various clinicopathologic factors were studied.Result The mean MVD in 65 case of esophageal carcinoma was 31.8±10.3.MVD positively correlated with depth of invasion of carcinoma cells and lymph node metastasis.Conclusion MVD is one of the predictor for the biological behavior of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
