Abstract

ObjectiveTo study the relationship between the expression of PTEN and clinicopathological features in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC). MethodsImmunohistochemistry stain(SABC) method was applied to investigate the expression of PTEN protein in specimens of 43 NSCLC and 20 normal lung tissue adjacent to lung carcinoma. Results The positive rate of PTEN was significantly lower in patients with NSCLC(46.5%) than that in normal lung tissue adjacent to carcinoma(95.0%) (χ~2=13.61,P0.01 ). The expression of PTEN was closely correlated with cellular differentiation, lymph node metastasis and prognosis in patients with NSCLC(χ~2=5.31-8.50;P0.05, 0.01), but not with age, sex, tumor size, TNM stage, or histological type of lung cancer(χ~2=1.08-2.73, P 0.05). ConclusionAbnormal expression of PTEN protein may play an important role in the occurrence, development and lymph node metastasis of lung cancer.
