Breeding and Utilization of the Quality Indica CMS Line Linghong A in Rice

Linghong A, developed from the cross of Zhenshan 97A/Lingyouzhan and its backcross with Lingyouzhan as the recurrent parent, is a new indica CMS line with good grain quality in rice. It has the characteristics of complete and stable male sterility with 100% of male sterile plants and sterile pollens, good flowering habits with high stigma exsertion rate (as high as 92%) and high outcrossing rate as a result in easy multiplication and hybrid seed production, medium blast resistance, desirable agronomic characters, good restorability and high combining ability. Its F_1 hybrids show both high yield and good grain quality. It was certified technically in Guangxi in July, 2000.
