Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the effect of sodium hyaluronate used in the trabeculectomy. Methods 115 patients ( 124 eyes) with glaucoma were divided into two groups randomly, the sodium hyaluronate were used in trabeculectomy in one group (65 eyes) and not used in the other group (59 eyes). The postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), the visual acutiy, the anterior chamber and the shape of filtering bleb were anlaysed and statistically compared. The average follow-up period was 15.2±5.6 months. Results The rate of complications of shallow anterior chamber in treatment group using sodium hyaluronate was 15.38% (10eyes) and that of the control group was 32.20% ( 19 eyes) ( P 0.05) , but there were no statistical differences in the two groups in the postoperative IOP, the visual acuity, the shape of filtering bleb and the number of failure in filtering surgery. Conclusion Sodium hyaluronate used in filtering operation can decrease the complications and elevate the safety.
