On Development and Appreciation of Nan Song Dynasty's Prose Writing

Abstract

The development of prose writing in Nan Song Dynasty's can be divided into four periods:transition period(about 30 years),resurgent period (about 60 years),declining period(about 50 years)and ending period (about 40 years). This article states that the achievement of Nan Song Dyanasty's prose writing cannot be underrated. as it has inherited and consolidated the fine tradition of Song Dynasty's prose writing which was settled by masters of Bei Song Dynasty and has enabled the tradition's further development. It has made progresses on the basis of Bei Song Dynasty's prose writing and showed some new features and characteristics. Although the problem of tediousness and weakness does exist among some Nan Song Dynasty's proses, we cannot deny the whole merit We should put an end to the prejudice of despising and underrating Nan Song Dynasty's prose writing in our prose writing history's studies.
