Abstract

The Chang Lun, the earliest theoretic works of vocal music, written by Yan Nan Zhi An in Yuan Dynasty, is analyzed and understood in this article according to the contemporary vocal music theory. The study on it shows its historic position and function in Chinese folk music and traces the development of Chinese ethnic music. Meanwhile, the research result also illustrates that the rich folk and ethnic music help to enrich the Chinese history and culture.
