Abstract
Objective To analyze epidemiologic investigation of the first case infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus(H5N1) in Nanning and provide scientific evidence for further prevention and control of avian influenza. Methods Field epidemiology was conducted for case investigation.Respiratory specimens from the patients were tested by reverse transcriptase(RT) PCR for the presence of H5N1 virus. Results The first case infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus(H5N1) in Nanning was finally diagnosed. The patient was dead due to invalid salvage and history of exposure to infected poultry was confirmed. The outbreak was effectively controlled after comprehensive intervention measure were taken, which includes case isolation and treatment, individual shield for staff, medical observation of intimate contactors.Abnormal occurrence and secondary cases was not found in person contactors. Conclusions Surveillance and Staff training were urgently necessary for avian influenza prevention and control.
