Abstract
GLP-2 is a 33-amino acid peptide secreted from L cells of the small intestine. GLP-2 plays a key role in the development of gastrointestinal-tract of neonatal animal. GLP-2 regulates gastric motility, gastric acid secretion, intestinal hexose transport, and increases the barrier function of the gut epithelium. The actions of GLP-2 are transduced by the GLP-2 receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor. These make GLP-2 become an important hormone in physiology. The structure, physiological effect, mechanism of action, secretion and degradation of GLP-2 were summarized in the article.
