Abstract
Caged pentaerythritol phosphate(PEPA), an intumescent flame retardant with double functional group was prepared via the reaction of phosphorous oxychloride and pentaerythritol. The structure of this substance was characterized. The influence of the PEPA/melamine cyanurate(MC) intumescent flame retardant system on the physical properties of poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) resin were studied. The results showed that PEPA was an excellent char-forming agents. PBT/PEPA/MC had favorable flame retardance (UL94 V-0) ,as well as good mechanical and thermal properties.
