Effect of Irbesartan on hypertension by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of irbesartan on hypertension by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Methods Forty-four patients with hypertension received Irbesartan(the dosage of 75) once orally per day, for four weeks.The doses were maintained or increased to 150-mg after one week based on the blood pressure variation, and it might be increased to 300-mg next week. 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure was monitored before and after the treatment. The total course lasted for 4 weeks.Results The average pressure during 24 hours per day decreased obviously(P0.01).The trough/peak of the systolic blood pressure and the diastolic blood pressure were 0.65±0.23 and 0.70±0.24 respectively.Conclusion Irbesartan is obviously effective and taken easily for patients with hypertension .Administration once per day will keep long and stable efficiency .It is a good medicine in treating hypertension for better trough/peak.
