Effect of escitalopram combined with olanzapine on the treatment of patients with depression

Objective To analyze the clinical effects and safety of escitalopram combined with olanzapine in the treatment of patients with depression. Methods 74 patients with depression were randomly divided into research group( n = 37) and control group( n = 37). The research group was treated with escitalopram and olanzapine,while control group was treated with escitalopram only.The changes of Hamilton Depression Scale( HAMD) scores before and after treatment were observed in two groups,and clinical effects and adverse reactions were compared as well. Results HAMD scores at 4,8 and 12 weeks of treatment decreased significantly,and the decreased range in research group was significantly larger than that in control group. The total effective rate and incidence rates of body weight gain and somnolence during treatment in the research group were significantly higher than those in the control group. However,there were no significant differences of the symptoms like mild anorexia,nausea,dry mouth and fatigue between two groups. Conclusion Escitalopram combined with olanzapine can effectively alleviate the depressive symptoms in patients with depression and improve quality of life of patients.
