Relationship between N terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels and cardiac function in heart failure patients

Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between the concentration of NT-proBNP,NYHA classification,left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and the value of NT-proBNP in the evaluation of cardiac function and the diagnosis of heart failure.Methods Two hundred heart failure patients and twenty-five non heart failure patients were selected.The concentration of NT-proBNP was determined by an automated electrocheniluminescence immunoassayan Roche Elecsys 2010.LVEF was measured by the modified Simpson's equation with echocardiography.The diagnosis of clinical physician was considered to be the golden standard for heart failure.Results The concentration of heart failure was significantly higher than controls;NT-proBNP showed positive correlation with NYHA classification(r=(0.992 0)),and negative correlation with LVEF.Conclusion NT-proBNP is a valuable biomarker for the evaluation of cardiac function and the diagnosis of heart failure.
