Abstract
Objective To study whether IFN γ can directly inhibit the proliferation of oral human fibroblasts. Methods The fibroblasts were obtained from human normal oral mucosa and cultured in vitro. Then the cell proliferation of fibroblasts incubated with or without IFN γ in the presence of 10% fetal calf serum for 48 h at 37 ℃in 5% CO 2 were monitered by use of thiazolyl blue (MTT) assay. Results IFN γ inhibited fibroblast proliferation in a concentration dependent manner. Conclusions IFN γ can directly inhibit human oral fibroblasts proliferation. It may be a promising pharmaceutical agent for the reduction of scarring after surgery and for the treatment of oral submucous fibrosis.
