Abstract
Using diethyl malonate as the starting material, ethyl 2,2-dinitroacetate was synthesized via the processes of hydrolysis, decarboxylation, and nitration. Its structure was confirmed by IR,NMR and MS.The optimal reaction conditions such as the reaction temperature and reaction time were also studied.Using NaNO2 and technical grade nitric acid(98%) as the nitrating agent, ethyl 2,2-dinitroacetate was obtained at higher yield(65%) and high purity(93%).This improved method features ready availability of raw materials and easy operation.
