Comparison of simple excision of pterygium and combined excision of pterygium with stem cell transplantation of limbus cornea

Objective To evaluate the curative effect and compare the curative and recurrent situation between two operative methods,simple excision of pterygium and combined excision of pterygium with stem cell transplantation of limbus cornea,for the treatment of pterygium.Methods Eighty-six cases(88 eyes)with pterygium were randomly divided into 2 groups according to operative method.Curative effect was compared between two groups with chi-square test.Results Ten cases(10 eyes)recurred in group A,and 1 case(1 eye)in group B.There was statistical significant difference(P0.05).The average repair time of epithelium was(5.15±0.92)d in group A,and(3.36±0.82)d in group B.There was significant difference(P0.05).Conclusion Excision of pterygium combined with stem cell transplantation of limbus cornea,an effective method to treat pterygium,can reduce the recurrence and lower the repair time of epithelium.
