Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of moxibustion at Zusanli(ST36) and Sanyinjiao(SP6) for promoting gastrointestinal function after abdominal operation. Method Totally 120 patients undergone abdominal operation were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 60 in each group. The control group was given conventional nursing care after abdominal operation, while the treatment group was given moxibustion at Zusanli and Sanyinjiao in addition to the same nursing care. The Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) score, regain of borborygmus, initial anal gas evacuation, and relief time of abdominal bloating. Result The VAS scores of the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group at different time points(P0.05,P0.01); the time taken for regain of borborygmus, initial anal gas evacuation and relief of abdominal bloating in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group(P0.01). Conclusion Moxibustion at Zusanli and Sanyinjiao produces a significant efficacy in reducing pain after abdominal operation and promoting gastrointestinal peristalsis, acting in a positive manner in the recovery after abdominal operation.
