Laparoscopic total extraperitoneal repair of inguinal hernia:a report of 25 cases

Objective To summarize the clinical experiences and efficacy of laparoscopic total extraperitoneal repair for inguinal hernia.Methods 30 totally extraperitoneal prosthetic(TEP) operations were performed on 25 patients with inguinal hernia using laparoscopy under general anesthesia.Results The operations were completed without conversion to open surgery in any of the cases.The operation lasted for 45 to 126 minutes(mean 61 minutes).The intraoperative blood loss was 5 to 20 ml.The hospital stay was 5 to 10 days(mean 5.5 days).In the present series,there were 4 cases of peritoneal tearing and 2 groin seroma;no intestinal and vasal injuries,neuralgia or hemorrhage were found.The patients were followed up for 1 to 19 months,with no case of recurrence encountered.Conclusion Laparoscopic TEP is safe and effective for patients with inguinal hernia.
