Abstract

Objective To summarize the efficacy and experience of laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair of inguinal hernia. Methods The clinical data of adult inguinal hernia underwent TEP in Zhongsan city hospital of TCM from December 2012 to December 2016 were reviewed. Results TEP was performed in 737 patients. Among them, 12 cases of incarcerated hernia were reduced with small incision at the inner ring and then TEP was performed. The operation time was (46±20) minutes, 15 cases were placed drainage tube after operation, the hospital stay was 4 to 6 days. Postoperative scrotal emphysema occurred in 3 cases, and 6 patients developed seroma and scrotal hematoma. After 11-59 months of follow-up, 2 cases recurred. Conclusion TEP is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of inguinal hernia. The postoperative recurrence rate is low and the recovery is fast. TEP is the first choice for the treatment of inguinal hernia at present. Key words: Hernia, inguinal; Herniorrhaphy; Laparoscopic; Totally extraperitoneal hernia repair
