Tazarotene gel vs calcipotriol ointment in treating plaque-type psoriasis

Abstract
AIM: To observe the efficacy and safety of tazarotene gel in the treatment of plaque type psoriasis and compare with calcipotriol ointment. METHODS: Seventy one patients with plaque type psoriasis were divided into two groups. Thirty six patients were treated with tazarotene gel topically qn for 12 wk. Thirty five patients were treated with calcipotriol ointment topically q12 h for 12 wk. RESULTS: In both tazarotene group and calcipotriol group, the total effective rates were 83 % and 79 % respectively. There were no obvious differences between the two groups( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Tazarotene gel is similar to calcipotriol ointment, safe and effective in therapy for plaque type psoriass.
