The comparison of TP and NP regimens in the treatment of advanced breast cancer

Abstract

Objective:To observe the efficacy and toxicity of paclitaxel and cisplatin(TP regime)versus navelbine cisplatin(NP regime)in treatment of advanced breast cancer.Methods:A total of 77 patients with advanced breast cancer(stage Ⅲa~Ⅳ)proved pathologically were randomly divided into two groups:38 patients received paclitaxel-cisplatin(TP regimen)and 39 patients received navelbine-cisplatin(NP regimen).Paclitaxel 135mg/m2by infusion on day 1 and cisplatin 30 mg/m2by infusion on day 2~4 in TP group.Navelbine(NVB)25 mg/m2by infusion on day 1,8 in NP,and cisplatin was same to TP in NP group.The treatment was repeated every 21 days,2 cycles were delivered.Results:TP regimen produced a higher response rate(RR)than NP regimen in the whole cases(68.42%and 46.15%,respectively)and for the retreated cases was 57.14% and 28.60%,respectively(P0.05);However,there was no significant difference between two groups in the RR of the initial treatment and the median survival(P0.05).The major toxicities were alopecia,bone marrow depression and digestive reaction(mainly grade Ⅰ~Ⅱ),which were similar in the two groups.Articular and muscular soreness was more in TP group than in NP group(P0.05).Conclusion:TP regimen produced a higher response rate(RR)than NP regimen in the whole cases and the retreated cases,and could be considered as a relevant regimen for first treated patients and retreated patients.
