Comparative Analysis on Chinese Water Quality Standards and Foreign Water Quality Standards/Criteria

The present Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water(GB 3838-2002) and Standards for Drinking Water Quality(GB 5749-2006) in China were analyzed and compared with the Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality issued by WHO,the Water Quality Standard for Drinking Water in 2001,and Recommended Water Quality Criteria: 2002 issued by U.S.EPA.Some problems and aspects to be further improved and perfected in the actual implementation and environmental management process of Chinese water quality standards as well as the importance and urgency of Chinese water quality criteria studies were proposed.Combined with the water quality standard management system status,countermeasures on establishment and revision of the water quality standards and how to establish effectively water quality standard management system in China were put forward.
