Abstract
The achievements of the study of Chinese etymology in the history of etymology in the period of Wei, Jin, the south and north dynasties, Sui, Tang and the five dynasties had not been paid much attention. There are much study in the explanation of Hanshu by Yan Shi-gu. From the point of learning history, the reason of his achievements had much to do with his inheriting and developing the study of etymology of early peoples studies. Tidying the achievements in it can make some supplements for the study of history of Chinese etymology.
