A Comparative Study on Manufacturing Industry Agglomeration in Jiangsu and Zhejiang

Drawing on the manufacturing industry data at 2-digit and 3-digit level from the first economy census in 2004,this paper compares the geographical distribution of manufacturing industries in Jiangsu and Zhejiang province.The preliminary results show that most manufacturing industries in these two provinces are to some extent geographically agglomerated.In general,manufacturing industries in Zhejiang are more agglomerated than those in Jiangsu.More over,industries with higher level of agglomeration are usually subject to higher degree of spatial autocorrelation at county level.We also find that industries with higher level of agglomeration in these two provinces are usually more competitive.
