Abstract
Objective To study the effect of curcumin on human esophageal cancer cell lines A549 proliferation and apoptosis. Methods The absorbance of the A549 cells was measured by MTT reduction assay and its growth inhibition ratio was calculated. The apoptical ratio of the A549 cells was evaluated by flow cytometry. Results In a certain concentration range, curcumin could inhibit A549 cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent pattern. The apoptical ratio of curcumin group was 18.89±0.58%,which was significantly higher than that of control group (4.25±0.19%,P0.01). Conclusion Curcumin could inhibit the proliferation and induce apotosis of human esophageal cancer cell lines A459.
