Abstract
Purpose To investigate the expression of paternally expressed gene 10(PEG10) and seven in absentia homologs 2(SIAH2) in hepatocellular carcinoma and to elucidate their clinical significance. Methods The expression of PEG10 and SIAH2 was detected by immunohistoehemistry in 50 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma and adjacent normal tissue(the normal hepatic tissue being at least 5 cm apart from the edge of the tumor). Results The positive rate was 84% for PEG10 and 78% for SIAH2,significantly higher than adjacent normal hepatic tissue(PEG10: 8%;SIAH2: 14%,P0.01).Statistic analysis showed that positive immunostaining of PEG10 and SIAH2 protein had association with histology grade(P0.01),but no association with age, gender, tumor size, serum HBsAg and AFP levels, and cirrhosis of HCC patients(P0.05).The expression of PEG10 protein was positively correlated with the expression of SIAH2 protein in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues(r=0.42,P0.01).Conclusion The expression levels of PEG10 and SIAH2 are related to the initiation and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.
