Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effectiveness of arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with late-course hyperfractionated accelerated 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy in treatment of advanced-stage esophageal carcinoma. Methods Ninety patients with advanced-stage esophageal carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups: group arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with late-course hyperfractionated accelerated 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy and group pure radiotherapy. The patients were followed by regular visits to watch the clinical and radiological improvement and to evaluate therapeutic efficacy. Results The 1-,2-,and 3-year survival rates were 68.9%,44.4% and 35.6% in the combined therapy group, and were 46.7%,24.4% and 15.6% in purel radiotherapy group, with significant difference between the 2 groups(P0.05).There was no marked difference in incidence rate of toxic reaction between the two groups. Conclusion Arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with late-course hyperfractionated accelerated 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy is a safe, reliable and effective treatment for advanced-stage esophageal carcinoma.
