Abstract
Objective To evaluate the treatment effects on occlusion by functional and fixed appliances at the peak stage of development in ClassⅡDivision 1 malocclusion. Methods Thirty patients were divided into two groups. One group was treated for 16 months with standard Edgewise appliance (E group) , the other group was treated for 16 months with Twin-block functional appliance (T group). The cephalometric data before and after treatment were analysed statistically. Results Functional treatment for correction of ClassⅡocclusion is achieved mainly by the skeletal and little by dental changes. Fixed appliance in the treatment of ClassⅡocclusion functions by the dental change completely. Conclusion Occlusion of ClassⅡDivision 1 malocclusion is improved by functional appliance.
