Occlusal Reconstruction of Serious Attrition with Dentition Defect

Objective To investigate the feasibility to restore the vertical dimension and missing teeth simultaneously for the patients suffer from serious attrition with dentition defect.Methods One patient of serious attrition with dentition defect was treated with occlusal pad-over denture in a complete oral reconstruction.After one-months’ and three-months’follow up,the feelings of the patient were reviewed.The electromyography of masseter and measure chewing efficiency by peanut suspension colorimetry were applied before the treatment,and one month or three months after the restoration respectively.Results Vertical dimension was increased by 3.5 mm.The patient was satisfied with both esthetics and function of the prosthetics in the three months of follow-up.Electromyography of stationary phase diminished obviously,while at the intercuspal position its change was unconspicuous.The optical density value was 0.436 before the restoration,while 0.745 and 0.875 one and three months after restoration,indicating that chewing efficiency was greatly increased.Conclusion Occlusal pad-over denture has a good effect in a short time for the treatment of serious attrition with dentition defect.
