Abstract
Objective To study the primary vitrectomy for treatment of pseudophakic retinal detachment. Methods The primary vitrectomy was performed in 54 consecutive cases(ECCE+IOL 45 eyes,PHACO+IOL 9 eyes)for pseudophakic retinal detachment without additional scleral buckling operation, following a standardized procedure. The vitreous cavity was tamponaded with silicone oil in 12 eyes and C_3F_8 in other 42 eyes.During operation, the intraocular lens was removed in 14 eyes in the mean while. All eyes have passed 6 to 18 months follow up examination. Results Intraoperative new retinal breaks were indentifed in 17 eyes(31.48%).The total retinal reattachment was in 48 eyes(88.89%),part reattachment was in 2 eye, failure occurred in 1 eye due to severe proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR).all eyes′ visual acuity was improved after operation. Conclusions The main advantage of primary vitrectomy is the better intraoperative sight to find the occulted retinal breaks in peripheral fundus, remove the vitreoretinal traction and media opacity,so as to decrease the rate of PVR and to improve the visual funtion after vitrectomy. The primary vitrectomy is a safe, effective clinical treatment for pseudophakic retinal detachment.
