Abstract

To explore the diagnostic value of neuron specific enolase(NSE)expression in patients with lung cancer.Human lung cancerous, paracancerous and distant tissues were collected, homogenates were prepared, total RNAs were purified. The concentrations of NSE and total RNA in tissues of 26 patients with lung cancer were investigated in this study. The concentrations of NSE were investigated in sera of 51 patients with lung cancer and 27 patients with benign lung disease. The levels of NSE and total RNA in lung cancerous tissues were significantly higher than those in paracancerous and in distant tissues (P0.001).The levels of NSE expression was positively correlated with lung total RNA concentration (P0.01).The level of serum NSE were (7.13±3.53)ng/ml in patients with benign lung diseases and (19.20±10.14)ng/ml in patients with primary lung cancer, the level of serum NSE was significantly lower(r=0.40 ,P0.01)in the former than the later.[Conclusions]Measurement of NSE in Serum is very useful for diagnosis and differential diagnosis in lung cancer.
