Effect of compound Chinese herbs preparation combined with α-ketoglutarate on immune system in weaned rats

The present paper studied the effect of Chinese herbs blender preparation combined with α-ketoglutarate(AKG)on the immune system in 18-day old weaned rat with initial body weight 40.0±5g. The rats were randomly divided into three groups, 10 rats in each one: Control group (feeding conventional rat diet), Chinese herbs group (feeding conventional rat diet plus 4% Chinese herbs) and Chinese herbs combined with AKG group (feeding conventional rat diet plus 4% Chinese herbs with 0.1% AKG). After 1 week and 2 weeks feeding experiment respectively, the fallowing items were tested: 1) the indices of the hemogram. 2) the indices of the immunity. The results showed: The number of red and white blood cells was not significant different in 3 groups. Chinese herbs plus AKG increased the concentration of serum globulin and immunoglobulin. The humoral and cellular immunity, non-specific immunity in Chinese herbs and Chinese herbs plus AKG fed rats were promoted. The study showed that the supplementation of Chinese herbs combined with AKG is more effective in the improvement of the immune system than the supplementation of Chinese herbs alone.
