Abstract

? Objective To study the relation and significance of tumor suppresor gene P16 and P53 expression and cellular DNA content in lung cancer. Methods The expresion of P16 and P53 protein was determined by immunohistochemical method. The cellular DNA content was assessed by image analysis system. Results Of 82 patients examined,51.2% showed P16 positive staining.Adenocarcinomas exhibited the highest P16 expression levels compared with squamous cell carcinomas and small cell carcinomas (P0.05).In lung cancer tissues,P53 positive staining rate was 80.5%,It was higher than that of tissues adjacent to carcinoma (P0.01),and the rate of P53 positive staining in squamous cell carcinomas was the hightest(P0.05).The levels of P16 and P53 were significantly both in group of hilar or mediastinal lymph node metastases and in group of different clinical stages (P0.01) respectively.P16 positive staining rate in diploidy was higher than that in aneuploidy, meanwhile the rate of P53 was low (P0.05).Conclusions Gene P16 and P53 play important roles in carcinogenesis and progression of lung cancer and correlated with the biological behavior and prognosis of lung cancer. 〔
