Analysis of Outpatient Chinese Traditional Patent Medicine Prescriptions During the Third Quarter of 2008 in Our Hospital

OBJECTIVE: To standardize the prescription writing and promote rational use of Chinese traditional patent medicines.METHODS: A total of 7 478 outpatient Chinese traditional patent drug prescriptions from July to September in 2008 were subjected to statistical analysis in accordance with Prescription Management Measures issued by Ministry of Health and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007.RESULTS: Of the total 7 478 prescriptions sampled,7 245(96.89%) were qualified versus 233 unqualified,meeting the prescription management index(prescription qualification rate ≥95%) required for 3-A grade hospital.CONCLUSION: Physicians are required to have a good understanding of the application of Chinese traditional patent medicines,master the theory of determination of treatment based in pathogenesis obtained through differentiation of symptoms and signs in traditional Chinese medicine and improve the quality of prescription writing to achieve a rational use of Chinese traditional patent medicines.Meanwhile,pharmacist should see to the quality of prescriptions.
